Neil Lipsitz and Mitch Mitchell continue to hem and haw and deny raising your property taxes. Lipsitz and Mitchell’s own public records prove it (see below). Lipsitz up 12.92% and Mitchell up 9.47%. The city average increase was 10.5%.
Why do they deny it? I don’t know.
Maybe they trusted ex-mayor Stephen Murray who claimed the 2023 budget would be revenue neutral after the county reassessment.
Watch the May 23, 2023 City Council meeting at 50:10 at this link.
Huge mistake to have trusted Stephen Murray and NOT ASK ONE SINGLE QUESTION
!
Your property taxes went up simply because of wasteful city spending. Lipsitz and Mitchell and also Josh Scallate have never taken one single good faith suggestion to cut spending on non-performing city assets like 500 Carteret, the commerce park, and the Carnegie Building to name a few. Never once. They just don’t listen. We can’t continue to tolerate this!
It’s time for new representation. Representation with a business-like attitude and a mind for avoiding costly mistakes. That’s why I’m voting for Cromer, Crenshaw, and Gibson.

Would someone please explain appraised value vs ‘capped’ value?
It favors people who bought their home over 20 years ago. There’s something wrong about calling it a ‘reassessment’ while capping the value for many. Thanks
